How do I finish paneling for a quilt?
I make quilts, but I have not done a lap quilt. My friend wants me to put together her lap quilt for her, but the top is just 1 piece of preprinted material. On my quilts I sew several peices together and I tie a thick string threw every corner of it to hold it together. I do not want to do this to hers because it would interfere with the picture. It is about 48" by 56", any suggestions. Thank you
I usually try to find ways to put the knots in according to the design. Just make sure they are 5 inches apart or closer. Or you can machine quilt it. A lap quilt is not too big for that. Just stay on the pattern.

There are several ways one you can take it to a quilt shop and have it quilted or you can quilt it by naking small knots with invisible thread.
really look at the pattern in the top. It should suggest what should be highlighted by knots or stitching.
if a place says "make me jump out" do a tiny running stitch all around it. You can do this with embroidery thread and a candlewicking needle. the stitches should be about 3/8 inches long with that much space between them, full 6 strands of embroidery floss. Use a large embroidery hoop to hold the layers together firmly.
Try using a variegated quilting thread than goes with the color on the top, and a thread that matches the bottem in the bottem and do a meandering stitch. That is what I did with a panel quilt that I added borders to and it looked really great.
