PostHeaderIcon What is the inside cotton-type stuff inside of a quilt?

I am making a quilt for the first time, self-taught, I am wondering what the material is inside of the quilt. I have the fabric for the outside and everything else, but can't figure out what goes inside of it to save my life.

PostHeaderIcon How do you get a coke spill out of a quilt w/o washing?

My mom accidentally spilled coke on a quilt she was working on. How can she get it out without washing the quilt?

PostHeaderIcon I need to find a way to de-flea my quilt without putting it in the wash. Any suggestions?

I can't put the quilt in the wash, it's precious to me, but need to treat my cats for fleas (now that I'm covered in bleepin' bites and get bit every night) and clean and vacuum for a few weeks, etc. What should I do with the quilt? I've read that isolating a space or objects is a bad idea because the pupae stay dormant, so putting it away seems a no-go. Should I keep vacuuming it along with the carpet and mattress every day? Help!

PostHeaderIcon How do I remove red dye from a polyester cotton quilt?

My daughter was ironing patches on to a red shirt on top of my quilt. The heat caused the shirt to transfer some red dye to the quilt.

PostHeaderIcon How do I get the running colors out of my homemade cotton quilt?

20 years ago I made a machine sewn, cotton gingham patchwork quilt. For 10 years it lay in storage and then I started using it. I washed it occasionally with no problem. We have just moved to Minnesota and I have had to start washing it more (I have a baby...).

Anyway, I just started noticing that the darker colors seemed to be bleeding into the lighter colors. (Is that the soft water of Minnesota doing that?)

I don't believe it has gone through the dryer so the colors haven't been set that way. How do I stop (& hopefully reverse) the bleeding?

PostHeaderIcon When did your little one start sleeping with a quilt and pillow in their cot?

I know it says that they can not have a pillow or quilt (duvet) before they are one but I just wondered how old your children were when you replaced the cellular blankets with a quilt and let them have a pillow?

PostHeaderIcon Does anyone have pattern for a quilt block of a baby cowboy with a stick horse?

I saw this years ago at a quilt show. The blocks were appliqued, Sunbonnet Sue style. A baby in a diaper wearing cowboy boots and Dads cowboy hat, down over the ears hiding the face, in profile, astraddle a stick horse.

PostHeaderIcon What is the best way to launder a vintage hand-stitched quilt top?

I bought an old quilt top today, and before I work with it, it will need to be cleaned. It has one small hole in one of the squares, and I've counted two small seams that will need to be re-enforced, but otherwise it seems to be intact. (The pieces are hand stictched, but are fairly tight.)

What is the best way to clean it without doing it damage?
